We are very excited to have to have you as part of our Kindergarten family this year! We have many fun and exciting learning opportunities planned this year. Below are the standards your child will be expected to master this school year. We look forward to working with you and your child during this 2017-2018 school year.
Literacy In kindergarten, students will learn the alphabet and the basic features of letters and words. They will break down spoken and written words into syllables and letters and identify the sounds each letter makes. These important skills will enable your child to learn new words and to read and understand simple books and stories. Students will also learn to write and share information in a variety of ways, including drawing, writing letters and words, listening to others, and speaking aloud.
Math In Kindergarten, your child will focus primarily on many important areas. The first is learning numbers and what numbers represent. We also learn how to add and subtract as well as, composing and decomposing numbers. We love ten frames and students will also learn to identify and work with shapes and measurement.
Science In Kindergarten, your child will learn to focus on the world scientifically. That means encouraging them to ask questions about nature and to seek answers, collect things, count and measure things, make qualitative observations, organize collections and observations, discuss findings, etc.
Social Studies In Kindergarten, your child will study aspects of the world around them: the family, the school, the community, etc. This can be done through a variety of means: story, drama, art, music, discussion, and more.
